I can't wait for Apple's new iCloud service to go live, which will be sometime in September. I am already lazy about copying my content from one device to another. Which, in all actuality really does suck to have to move everything over to your iPhone, iPad and your computer. I do sync most of my music library even though I don’t really listen to music on my iPad… however I did find it useful when my 2 hour battery charge ran out on my iPhone on vacation during the car ride to the beach (forgot the car charger).
Anyway, back to the story… For those that don’t know iCloud is a revamped version of the ridiculously stupid and overpriced MobileMe. iCloud is essentially a hard drive in the sky that pushes your content to whatever device or devices you choose. It is pretty amazing. For instance, I can snap a photo with my iPhone and the iCloud service will push it to my Mac and my iPad automatically. It goes much further than that too. You can modify a document and it will update all occurrences on your other devices or you can even download a book and have it download on your other devices at the same time. Totes Mcgoats right!?
Now, if you are as excited about this as I am, then you are probably asking how much does an amazing service like this costs. It’s FREE… mostly. You automatically get 5gb for free when signing up for the iCloud service. Also, your purchased music, apps, and books as well as your photo stream don’t count against your storage. Which is what most people store on their computer anyway. So I would bet that 5gb is more than enough for most people. In case 5gb isn’t enough storage upgrades are available (which is added to the 5gb):
+10gb for $20 per year
+20gb for $40 per year
+50gb for $100 per year
This isn’t an in-depth preview or anything so there is much more information out there about this service. Obviously, Apple.com is probably the best place to start.
